There’s a lot to be said for leaving the dishes unwashed, the laundry in its basket and breakfast crumbs on the floor, if it allows you to step outside into sunshine. I don’t just mean any old run of the mill sunshine; I’m referring to cloudless sunshine, crisp and brilliant sunshine. Pure gold, seeing as rain and clouds hung around for what felt like the entire month of June. I don’t have anything against winter weather, books and writing fill up my days quite nicely, but when the opportunity to go for an early morning walk (thank you school holidays and no lunch boxes or children to micromanage) presents itself, one must simply take it. So, I did.
For the first time in quite a while, I closed my eyes, inhaled deeply and let the sensations of vibrant sunshine wash over me before slowly blinking my eyes open against the daylight. With it came a feeling of content, I was doing something I wanted to do outside of my routine time of day for doing it. Yes, I am a creature of habit, but I love the feeling of being a rebel and changing it up, especially when there are minimal clocks holding me accountable.
Along for the walk was my gorgeous Kali dog and song playlist highlighting the hygge-a-licious Danish pop singer Christopher. Such a calm way to start my day, fingers crossed I can find more and more of these moments.
