LOST WITHOUT YOU – Rachael Johns

5-Star review

I’m a lover of all books written by the fabulous Rachael Johns.  Lost Without You is no exception.  The cover statement ‘Four women, one dress, and the secret that binds them all…’ left me intrigued right from the beginning.

This novel had a lot going on.  I will be honest and say that it took me the first 100 pages to keep the story lines straight in my head, but once I found my groove I read the remainder with ease.  I also did have a lot going on in life outside of reading and I’m certain this contributed to my initial struggle.  This did NOT subtract from my pure enjoyment of the story at all.

As each little twist and turn was uncovered, I found myself joining in with hypothetical what if story lines.  This kept me guessing right until the very end as to how each of their lives would turn out.  A story such as this, with four pivotal characters, was bound to be to produce a favourite.  For me it was Josie.

There were a few reasons why I was captivated by Josie, firstly, her emotional rawness.  It was refreshing to read a character that was genuinely ‘broken’, with a relatable background for many.  Alongside the rawness, I observed and respected a strength that can only be found when we dig deep, putting not only ourselves first, but others too.  I also adored her ability to keep it real despite what others thought.

Paige, Rebecca and Clara made up the other three sides of this tightly and intricately woven web.  There were many moments when I felt for each of the characters as they navigated their way through many hurdles.  Once again, these hurdles brought on teary eyes.  Luckily, I was at home this time and had the tissues close at hand.

The pace of the story was spot on, it moved at a good speed and successfully maintained the level of description required to draw the reader in.  Now if only this was made into a movie, I would be able to compare and contrast the two… 😊 hmmm…

I have a couple other Johns’ novels on my shelf, I feel that either Just One Wish or The Art of Keeping Secrets will be next.

Happy Reading.
