One Summer in Santorini – Sandy Barker

A REVIEW - 4 stars

Travel romances have become a favourite of mine over the past few years accompanied by a yearning to explore our great land. I’ve read a number of them now having stumbled across them at library book sales and secondhand shops, but the call to seek them out has been strengthened thanks to the creative story lines of Sandy Barker, her easy read writing style and vibrant covers. As someone who has never owned a passport, I traveled alongside Sarah in One Summer in Santorini gaining a snapshot of the views, the food and the locals. The inner thoughts of Sarah allowed a front row seat to her experiences and provided a deeper understanding of her character.

I found Sarah to be a lovable character and enjoyed the use of her inner banter, it drew me further into the story and created many moments where her emotions could be felt. The dilemmas that Sarah faces could be found in day-to-day life, making this a relatable journey to take, especially for those who have travelled internationally and navigated cross culture experiences.

Plenty of pointers for those who have not travelled, with plenty of drawcards for the Greek Islands, the description of the authentic food left me salivating. If I were to only have one overseas trip, the Greek Islands would have to be included in the itinerary.

Perhaps an epilogue at the very end would have been a added bonus, though that was mostly because I didn't want the story to end. I cannot wait to read That Night in Paris and A Sunset in Sydney, the next two titles in the Holiday Romance series.
