WEYWARD – EMILIA HEART

A 5-Star Book Review

I was told that this book had “cottage core vibes.” A familiar sense of warmth for me and one I seek regularly.  With a beautiful front cover and the promise of a witchy story, I was drawn like a moth is to light.  Spanning across both the ages and the family tree, Altha, Violet and Kate are connected, rooted by the essence of their existence.  I found this book to be deeply nourishing food for the soul.

Many elements kept my attention.  The use of both first and third person to share the individual stories helped to differentiate between characters.  I found depth to Altha’s voice as she was the one awarded first person.  Each Weyward female was a protagonist in her own right and if I had to choose a favourite, I would fail.  Each unique story held me captivated; a sense of yearning kept me returning every chance I had to uncover yet another piece of their story.

I was most intrigued by Altha and her courtroom trial.  The rawness conveyed drew me in and at times left me gasping for air.  Violet left me dismayed when I learnt of her mother.  And Kate, the final piece of the puzzle left a feeling of awe.  The strength of each character when combined made for an unforgettable read.

I do so hope that Hart produces more stories of this calibre and genre.
